A week ago, I "penned" an entry making the comprehensive case for Obama-Clinton. Since then, I've returned to my senses in realizing just how horrid a weight the Clintons would be on an Obama adminstration.
More importantly, however, there have long been clear signs that the Obama people want no part of her. Pelosi, Kennedy, and Dodd have repeatedly nixed it and continue to nix it.
However, Clinton people have recently been talking it up despite official denials. McAuliffe has weighed in positively as has Chuck Schumer.
In addition, the website VoteBoth is attempting to show support for an Obama-Clinton ticket. It is, however, run entirely by people with clear connections to the Clinton campaign.
This support for the Clinton side and opposition from the Obama side has convinced me more than anything else that the idea would be horrible. I trust Chicago's judgment far more than Arlington's.
So what should we do to fight back, Kossacks? Should we have Kos go on "Meet the Press" to shoot down the idea, form our own website in favor of Obama being able to choose the VP he desires?
I'm all in favor of a graceful manuever wherein the VP is offered but turned down by Senator Clinton, and I don't want to get in the way of that with our potential efforts. I think it's important that she be able to save face so that she can support the party in November.
But I'm really worried that Senator Clinton is really angling for the position. It would give her and Bill prestige, access to power, and would rehabilitate their reputations and legacies. And she certainly knows how to pull the gender and race cards and whip up resentment among her supporters. We need to avoid the appearance of an Obama snub so as to keep her supporters in the fold.
Is there anything we can do? Is there anything we should do? Or should we just leave it the capable hands of the Obama team?
